A B driving licence allows you to drive passenger cars and light trucks with a total weight of up to 3,500 kg. There are three different driving licence categories for passenger cars: B, B extended, and BE. The difference between these categories is the type of trailer you are permitted to tow. One advantage of obtaining a manual transmission licence is that it allows you to drive all passenger cars, including those with automatic transmissions.

When you plan to start your driving training, it is a good idea to apply for a learner's permit as soon as possible, as processing times can vary and may be lengthy.
You can easily do this using the Swedish Transport Agency’s form. The fastest way is to fill it in and apply directly on their website using your Bank ID.
Private Driving Practice for a B Licence
- You must complete a supervisor training course.
- Your supervisor must also complete a supervisor training course.
- A supervisor certificate from the Swedish Transport Agency must be available when you practise driving.
- The green and white "ÖVNINGSKÖR" (Learner Driver) sign must be clearly visible on the back of the car.
Mandatory Risk Training
Risk 1 covers alcohol, other drugs, fatigue, and other risky behaviours.
Risk 2, previously known as the skid training course, includes the consequences of speed, safety, and driving in special conditions. Contact your driving school to choose a location for the skid training.
