There are three different driving licence categories for passenger cars: B, B extended, and BE. The difference between these categories is the type of trailer you are permitted to tow. Below, you can read about the requirements you need to meet in order to obtain a B-category driving licence. Among other things, you must have a valid learner permit, have completed the mandatory risk training, and pass both the theory test and the driving test. To actually receive the category B driving licence, you also need to have turned 18.<\/p><p data-start=\"774\" data-end=\"976\">It is a good idea to apply for a learner driver permit early in your driver training. You need the permit to be able to start practice driving, regardless of whether you drive privately or with a driving school.<\/p><p data-start=\"978\" data-end=\"1122\">The easiest way to apply is digitally with the Swedish Transport Agency using electronic identification.<\/p><h3 data-section-id=\"hmais2\" data-start=\"1124\" data-end=\"1163\">Private practice driving for a car licence<\/h3><p data-start=\"1165\" data-end=\"1429\">Saloon <strong data-start=\"1171\" data-end=\"1276\">On 1 August 2026, neither the pupil nor the supervisor needs to attend a supervisor course or introductory training.<\/strong> to practise driving privately with a car or light lorry. The requirement for introductory training has been removed.<\/p><p data-start=\"1431\" data-end=\"1493\">To learn to drive privately for a category B licence, you instead need:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1495\" data-end=\"1699\"><li data-section-id=\"yj3web\" data-start=\"1495\" data-end=\"1529\">have a valid provisional driving licence<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1x3fm8m\" data-start=\"1530\" data-end=\"1602\">have a supervisor who is approved by the Swedish Transport Agency for you as a learner driver<\/li><li data-section-id=\"jthdtp\" data-start=\"1603\" data-end=\"1671\">have reached the correct age for the type of vehicle you are going to practise driving with<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1vgamb7\" data-start=\"1672\" data-end=\"1699\">have a valid form of identification.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1701\" data-end=\"1894\">For regular practice driving with a car, you can start from <strong data-start=\"1759\" data-end=\"1775\">16 years of age<\/strong>. The supervisor must apply for supervisorship and be approved before you start driving.<\/p><p data-start=\"1896\" data-end=\"2172\">When you are learning to drive privately, the green-and-white L-plate must be clearly visible at the rear of the car and the supervisor must have their supervisor's certificate with them. The risk training consists of two parts.<\/p><p data-start=\"2580\" data-end=\"2764\"><strong data-start=\"2580\" data-end=\"2616\">Riskettan \u2013 Risk Education Part 1<\/strong><br data-start=\"2616\" data-end=\"2619\" \/>The first part is theoretical and deals, among other things, with alcohol, drugs, fatigue and other behaviours that can increase the risk of traffic accidents.<\/p><p data-start=\"2766\" data-end=\"2987\"><strong data-start=\"2766\" data-end=\"2802\">The skid training course \u2013 Risk education part 2<\/strong><br data-start=\"2802\" data-end=\"2805\" \/>The second part is practical and is often called the skidpan.
